How can I make the word 'kids' not redundant?

How can I make the word kids not redundant in the following sentence?

As she saw four kids pass her by, she thought these could be their kids five years after.

Would it be better if I rewrite the sentence as follows?

As she saw four kids pass her by, she thought these could be hers five years after.
