How can I convey this idea in English?

I speak in Russian such phrase. If I translated literally, it would sound like this "I sometimes hit talk about nothing with someone." or "I sometimes breaks through talk about nothing with someone." How can I convey this idea in English?

This is Russian slang. If something comes up into my mind to do. I can say I am broken through to do something.
