How are these different?

0Hi,02br
02br
00I used the sentence below to pose a question, and I think Mr. M responded/noted that it is wrong. How is it different than the sentence I found. To me, if the one from the book is correct, then my sentence should be good too.02br
02br
01i00He walked the road of carpenter -- the road that walked by many of his ancestors.02i02br
02br
00(I used the dash to tell more about the road, and that could be said to be a function of a dash.)02br
02br
00But Mr. M said that it should be:02br
02br
01i00He walked the road of carpenter -- the road that was walked by many of his ancestors.02i02br
02br
00And Mr. M's version looks good too, but I wonder why my sentence should be regarded as incorrect when the sentence below and mine seem to exhibit 01u00a very similar sentential structure02u00 (shoud it be 'very similar sentential structures??). 02br
02br
01i00For such instruction we are always dependent upon Biblical doctrine -- the truth of God revealed in the Holy Scriptures.02i02br
02br
00Only clue (if I can call it that) I could tell that might help to answer is the fact my sentence contains a preposition 'by,' which could necessitate the use of the passive form, but I can't use that fact to explain it to my satisfaction. 0-

00OK, it might be construed as "the road" doing the walking; then, if I rewrite like these, are they correct?02br

0 YOu can't drop the was without losing the meaning. You need the past tense of 'to be' - was. Otherwise it's like saying 'The road red' instead of the 'road was red' 0-
