How afraid I should've been

I'm not sure how afraid I should've been of the teacher when I was in elementary school.

Hello....

Isn't there any possibility that the sentence above can be understood to mean "I'm not sure how afraid I was of the teacher when I was in elementary school"?

I can't imagine it. I've tried to understand it that way, but without success. "should've been" just doesn't mean that to me.

The closest I can come is "I'm not sure how afraid I would have been of the teacher when I was in elementary school"

This is just about possible, though the double lack of certainty of 'I am not sure' and 'I would have been' makes it unlikely, in my opinion.

Actually as a non-native of English, I wasn't completely sure what my question was. This kind of things don't appear in the books.
