If spoken to a novelist, which of the following (yellow) is better?

A- How about your new book?

B- It's practically writing itself.

A- What about your new book?

Neither is natural to me as an opening statement in a conversation. I would say something like "How's your new book going?" or "How's your new book coming along?"

However, in this type of exchange they are both fine:

A: How's family life?

B: So-so.

A: How/What about your new book?
