"How about you" vs. "What about you"

Greetings,

I am struggling between those two, which one is more appropriate as returning the question "How are you?" or "How is it going?"

Thanks in advance!

Oh sorry for that, here is an example:
A:How are you?
B:I am fine, how about you? (or what about you?)
A:Not bad, thanks.

I am trying to learn the difference between those 2, i have searched a bit and found that they are not too different from each other but I want to be precise and learn more about their usages.

Ah. Oh, they are both fine. They have the same meaning; they are just variations.

B: I'm fine. How about you? / What about you? / How are you? / And you? / You?
