I see no real difference.

I like curry very much. How about you?
I like curry very much. What about you?

I'm staying home tonight. How about you?
I'm staying home tonight. What about you?

When followed by the base form of a verb, only "How about you" sounds good to me:

How about you try that yourself?

Those both seem so casual to me that either would serve.
