1-They searched houses of journalists.
2-They searched houses of the journalists.
3-They searched the houses of journalists.
4-They searched the houses of the journalists.

5-They searched journalists' houses.

6-They searched the journalists' houses.

Which of the above correspond to which of the below:
a-They searched the houses of some of the journalists.

b-They searched at least one house of each journalist. (assuming there are journalists that have more than one house.) c-They searched all of the houses of all of the journalists.

The problem is that some journalists may not have any houses and some may have joint ownership of one or more houses.
