Household appliances

I am looking for a word which describes the tools and appliances in the house. I can think of household appliances but I think this term is used for stuff such as fridge, stove, washing machine, dish washer and so forth. I wonder if there is any term for some primitive appliances in house which fit the following context.

My interest turned out to be a big problem for my parents, since I was curious to separate the household appliances and try to analyze their mechanisms without knowing how to piece them back together.

Thanks

" "Separate" is the wrong word, I believe. " To separate them would be to place the various tools in a pile, and then spread them out, still intact. " "Gadgets" is also good, if you don't need to be too formal.

I'd stick with "tools," or "implements."

"Separate" is the wrong word, I believe. Perhaps you could use "disassemble."

I'll grant you that "tools" and "implements" most often refer to items without moving parts - especially when you say "household tools."

If you are talking about thinks like toasters, blenders, etc., they're often called "small appliances."
And I would use the verb "take apart."

Thanks for your responses.

The context was a part of my SOP explaining how I got interested in mechanical engineering.

My interest in Mechanics blossomed during my high school years. I remember the day I was watching a documentary on TV about robotic technology, the program interested me so much that I decided to join the robotic group in our high school, however, the

"A big problem" is the best choice.
