HOUSE (2008) - The "First Christian Horror Movie"?

Last night I was flicking through my Netflix streaming queue and, purely on a whim, decided to give this a shot, expecting a massive piece of crap.
And suh-prise! I got a massive piece of crap!
First of all, you kind of have to roll your eyes at the premise. The "First Christian Horror Movie"? Now, we all know that Evangelicals don't approve of horror movies, but to their credit the makers of this HOUSE (not to be confused with the Steve Miner movie from the 80's) have actually bothered to watch a few before making their own. There's that jaundiced green lighting from the SAW movies, Bill Mosely from TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE PART II (and those shitty Rob Zombie remakes of TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE PART II), creepy Japanese-style ghosts that bleed black smoke, and even a visual reference to Nicholas Roeg's DON'T LOOK NOW.
It kind of plays like a greatest hits of contemporary horror movies. Just... minus the scary parts. Of course, there's also not a single drop of blood, despite people getting stabbed with butcher knives and blasted with shotguns (I guess gore is only "Christian" when it involves Christ). Then again, the dialog is kind of scary; in fact, it's so stilted and tin-eared I pretty much winced every time one of the actors opened their mouth.
And as for HOUSE being the "First Christian Horror Movie"? I hate to burst the filmmaker's collective bubble here, but somebody beat them to the punch a few decades ago. You ever hear of this little movie called THE EXORCIST?
, I knew I should have watched MAD DOCTOR OF BLOOD ISLAND instead.

Cheers,
B

Though I haven't seen it, when it was released (briefly) in cinemas I thought it was a remake of the 80s horror flick - which was a funny haunted house movie - and wondered how the **** a good Christian could steal the title of a fairly well-known movie, just to lure in horror fans who did not read that it wasn't a remake? There are a million other titles - why swipe one?

By the way - HOUSE can not be the first Christian horror movie (aside from all of those other movies) - the writer, Frank Peretti, specializes in Christian Horror, and his novel HANGMAN'S CURSE was made as a Christian Horror movie in 2003.

The first Christian horror movie? Puh leeze.
One thing that bugs me: I'm not much of a Christian, but why are the Christian books excluded from the bestseller lists? These books sell in the millions, but for some reason are kept off the NYT etc lists. Imho, sales are sales, and we should play fair. Oooh, I smell a letter to the editor creeping up.

My point exactly. There was a time long ago, in the Dark Ages, when all art was religious art. If you created art that wasn't about ***, there was a good chance that the authorities would go Spanish Inquisition on your ***. Ev

Christian books may sell in the millions, but do they do it one by one, or by being bought in large lots by Christian organizations?

And another thing. What's with all these Extenze ads? Save them for late night! I don't want them on during the early hours - it's bad enough to hear about "enhancing a certain part of the male anatomy" in the middle of the night, but at FIVE P.M.? I don't want to be splainin stuff to the little ones!
