Hot/humid

What is the difference between 'hot' and 'humid'?

When I say the weather is hot, sometimes my friend says "It's humid." So are they about the same in meaning?

Thank you.

Thank you Mister Micawber.

In conversation it means hot and with high water content.

Does it mean that strictly speaking it is not correct when it is not a conversation?
