Hotel

I'm asking the front desk for another key to my hotel room could I say:

Room is reserved under my dad's name. Or Should it be:

Room was reserved under my dad's name.

I think it should be was but I'm still staying in the room so could I use is?

Top answer

To me, the use of was suggests that the room is no longer reserved. I would use "the room has been resereved under my dad's name".

My thoughts exactly, but I'd still like to know which one is the correct verb to use in this particular situation.

Thank you.

But doesn't reserved imply that the reservation was done in the past?

It's quite confusing.

I think reserved is an adjective there even though it could be also regarded as a past participle.

The room has been reserved under my dad's name. (I'm not sure whether reserved is considered an adjective or past participle )

My dad has reserved the room. (here reserved is a pp)

Hi,

Why do you need to explain all that?

Why not just say this?

'I'm in Room 137. Can I have another key, please?'

PreciousJonescould I say:

Room is reserved under my dad's name. Or Should it be:

Room was reserved under my dad's name.
It makes absolutely no difference. As you say, it was reserved, but it is still reserved, so either one applies.

Most Americans would say, "The room is reserved under my dad's name." The room is currently reserved, in the present.

However, "The room was reserved under my dad's name." is not incorrect. The room was originally reserved in the past, so "was" is not incorrect, but that is not the way most of us would say it.
