Hot and cold

Is there a word or an idiom to express this:

To expand when hot and to shrink when cold

I googled 'shrinkage and expansion', Jobb, but nothing seemed to suggest a single term for this physical property. It seems to me there might be one, to go along with 'malleability', but it does not come to mind, sorry. I hope someone else has a bright idea.

Thermal Expansion:

Definition: Deformation due to temperature changes.

Example: Materials expand as they are heated and shrink as they cool. Seasonal variations in temperature are sufficient to cause appreciable thermal movements in large structures, a factor which a civil engineer has to consider in the design of roadways, bridges and buildings.
