Hospital

0 Hello,02br
00I've been taught that when "hospital" is treated as a place where one receives medical treatment (as opposed to e.g. a workplace), the definite article goes with it.02br
00Could you tell me if it is always like that? I've just seen this sentence in my dictionary: 01i00"He's in hospital recovering from an operation" 02i00and I am surprised as there is no "the" and obviously "he" refers to a patient.02br
02br
00Thank you.0-

0Hello Magda02br
02br
00In British English, you don't need an article when the focus is on "receiving care", e.g.02br
02br
001. He's in hospital.02br
02br
002. He was taken to hospital after the accident.02br
02br
003. He went into hospital on Monday morning and never came out again.02br
