Horrific - horrendous

What is the difference between these two adjectives: HORRIFIC - HORRENDOUS? It seems to me that they are partly synonymous - partly not.

She made some horrendous mistakes.

He wears horrendous clothes.

In the local paper there was a horrific article about a murder.

The prisoner had committed some horrific crimes.
