Horrible

Hi,

What is the difference between horrible, horrific and horrendous?

Top answer

Horrific is the most emphatic of the three: It was a horrific accident: 15 people in 7 vehicles were killed. Horrible is less emphatic: I feel horrible today: I have the flu, I lost my job, I broke up with my girl, and I failed two exams. Horrendous is rather melodramatic: It was a horrendous waste of talent to assign him to the mail sorting room.
