Hope+would

Hello everybody! Could someone help me to understand this sentence?

"The Senate campaign last week, which she hoped would add legitimacy to her government, was marred by violence."

In this sentence, I don`t understand 'she hoped would' part. I was taught, 'hope' comes with '(that) + Subjective + Verb'. But, I don`t see any subject between 'hoped and would'. Can somebody explain this to me in grammatically or else? Thanks in advance!

You will see sentences like this one now and then. Oftentimes there's no need to repeat the subject once it has been mentioned. You should choose whatever answer you think is correct.

  • (the subject of "is" answer) What country do you hope will win?
  • (the subject of "will win" is country) "that" is often used after "hope" but it's usually not required, and it would be wrong in your example.
