Hope & Auxiliary Verbs

I hope that could be done in the future.

Is this sentence grammatically wrong? Most of the guides I read only ever discuss "would" and "will" used with "hope". I understand I can revise the sentence to exclude any auxiliary verbs, but I'd like to be able to use them correctly instead.
