Hi guys.

I have a question about "main hook" and "brass". I guess I know what they mean, but I need to make sure.
Someone says: I hit on a harmony part to the main hook. Then John got excited and said: "God it sounds like brass!"
OK, so I suppose he was playing some riffs on the guitar to the main melody of the song and then John said that it sounded superb (brass)

We need someone who knows musician slang. (I've never used "brass" to mean "money" so that's a new one for me, too.)

I don't suppose it's possible he literally meant that it sounded like brass instruments? As though what I believe is called a "brass line" were playing with them? That Earth, Wind & Fire/ Chicago sound?

This is how I see it.
He was listening to the main hook, and he then created a harmony part to the main hook (we don't know which instrument he was playing). The main hook played together with the new harmony part gave/created the sound of a brass instrument.
