Hook-up

Dear teachers

Is the word hook-up common?

as in

They need to get her a hook-up.

Would you agree that 'hook-up' here means 'squeeze', or simply, someone you make out with?

Many thanks

Why is it that 'hook-up' can't work as a noun?

Thanks

In the context of romance, "hook-up" is typically used as a verb rather than a noun. The reason is probably that "hook-up" as a noun in the context of romance is too close in sound to hooker.

Alright... but that doesn't mean it's not possible to hear it. The context I found that noun has some vulgarity, so, I believe 'hook-up' would sound better than 'hooker'.

I wonder if 'squeeze' would be more appropriate and common.

Thanks
