Hook up

Hi
I've learned the general usage of this phrasal verb as having sex with someone, but now I sometimes hear peeps using it as a way of saying to connect or contact someone. Is that a correct usage? Wouldn't it be sort of ambiguous maybe in a funny way (this depends on what one perceive funny).

That's the thing. Specially when some non-native uses it in a group of folk and you wonder what to tell him! I mean, you clearly know, he doesn't mean to have *** with another guy who he mentions but then come on! I feel it's an inappropriate way of saying "get connected with someone", but as I ain't a native I couldn't say anything, that's why I posted it here to see what you guys an natives thi

hi there, i generally know, "hook up with s.o or sth" means to meet or to spend time with somebody. then , hook up may be perceived in informal slanguage as having *** with someone
