Honored/recognized/praised groups and charities

For instance, the awards honored groups and charities that helped people following the 2004 tsunami.

Is "honored" in the above interchangeable with "recognized" and "praised?" Thanks.

'Recognized', yes; 'praised', no.

It carries those meanings but you wouldn't say that the award 'praised' the groups. Sorry, I'm new at this so I can't explain why! You could use 'recognized', but 'honoured' (sorry, I'm British!) is stronger.
