Homespun

Hi.

The central piece was Maria's outfit, described by the auctioneers as "a heavy brown homespun Austrian-style dress with a wheat-coloured homespun blouse."

Could you please suggest an alternative for the underlined part? I thought of domestic as an alternative.

What about home-made?

Persian Learner Could you please suggest an alternative for the underlined part? If they mean that it was literally made from cloth spun at home, there is no good alternative, though "homemade" is pretty good. If they they don't mean it quite so literally, you could say "simple" or "sturdy", or you might change homespun Austrian-style to "Austrian country-style".

  • "domestic" won't capture the meaning as well.
