Home birth

Comedian says on stage:

My wife's had four kids at home. Or

My wife had four kids at home.

He's talking about home birth.

Are both useable and interchangeable? Since it's an experience shouldnt' the present perfect be better?

PreciousJones Since it's an experience shouldnt' the present perfect be better? Not 'better'; just a different slant to the statement.

Could you explain 'different slant'? Do you mean just a different viewpoint or perspective?

Thanks! I don't really see a difference in either usage.

"My wife had four kids" suggests that she is finished having kids. "My wife has had four kids" suggests "so far": that is, she might possibly have more.
