Holiday season

Does the "Holiday Season" in the US only refer to the period starting from Thanksgiving to New Year?

I would not necessarily understand it to include Thanksgiving. I would take "holiday season" to mean approximately from December 10 through January 10 at the latest -- more narrowly, from December 24 through January 1. CJ

I think it depends on context. Retailers might consider the "holiday season" to begin at Thanksgiving -- certainly that's the traditional start of the holiday shopping season.

Or Halloween. I know that the music that comes from the ceiling at Walgreen's Drug Stores here in California changes to Christmas music at midnight on Halloween. I have it on the authority of a pharmacist friend of mine who works the night shift there!
