Hello,
Would you please let me know which options are correct and/or more natural?
1) To make holes in a paper sheet;
2) To make holes on a paper sheet;
3) To punch holes in a paper sheet;
4) To punch holes on a paper sheet.
If the material had some volume-as a round rock, for instance-would that require/allow the use of "in": a hole in the rock (instead of a hole on the rock)?
Thank you so much!!!
We don't say ' on '. We don't say 'a paper sheet'. We usually say eg a piece of paper, a page, a sheet of paper.

Yes, we make holes in a rock. They may or may not be through a rock.
