Holding the door (shut) from inside

The man went to the door and tried to open it, but couldn't as Phil was holding the door (shut) from inside.

Would you include 'shut' to avoid unclarity or is it clear and okay without?

Hi The sentence is clear without it. But 'holding the door shut' is good and that's probably what I would say: I would put 'shut' in. Dave
