hold up, get to a garage

I hope the repairs hold up until we can get to a garage.

Please tell me what "get to a garage" means. Or else please replace the whole sentence in a simple way.

I can guess the meaning of this sentence as, "I hope the repairs will be mended if we take this vehicle to a garage".

Hi Gary Someone has apparently made some sort of temporary repair to a car and they are hoping that the temporary repair lasts long enough for them to be able to reach or drive to a garage (a place where cars are repaired). Presumably the garage will then do a more professional and permanent repair.
