I hold out him three pens.

I hold out an apple to the elephant.

Are these sentences correct? [hold out = extended my arm over the receiver side to give him that thing, I think]

I hold out three pens to him.

I hold out him three pens. I think this sentence structure looks similar to, "I asked him three questions" Then what's wrong with this.

Looks are not everything, Gary. Some verbs will tolerate no preposition and others will not:

I asked him
I told him
I gave him
