Hold on a second, please!

Hi all, I am first time here... great website!

Anyway, my question is,

Is this right expression? - "Hold on a second, please"

When I am not ready to order in restaurants or stores and the servers are waiting my order, can I use this?

I am hesitating to use this words because, I feel this words are a little rude becuase "hold on" sounds like "do not move !!" Emotion: smile

"Wait a minute/second" would be better ?

" Hold on ", " wait ", etc. are imperatives so don't seem very polite. Maybe you could try something like: " Sorry, I'm not ready to order yet.
