hold church services

Many European cities have famous old cathedrals that still hold church services.

Hi,

I know the litteral meaning of "hold church services," but I have no idea of what kind of services they are. Could you give me a few examples of these services? Thanks.

In Protestant churches, it would be Sunday worship as well as funerals and weddings. In Catholic, additional services would be the Mass on Sundays and other holy days.
