HIYA

Hiya. when I first moved to london 2 ys ago to study at the swedish school I was greeted with the word Hiya everywhere - in stores, by friends etc. Now, today I found an old article on this website, and the people answering the question claims that "hiya" is not suitable to say to someone u do not know.

Now, back in UK after a 2 y visit in sweden, I use hiya wherever, whenever. Is that OK? or do I sound stupid? I like saying hiya. it sounds cool. give me another cool greeting-word. or five.

i'm 19 so it needs to be an awesome word, presumably

'Hiya' is very casual. It sounds friendly, but it may sound odd to some strangers. I have no awesome greetings for you-- greetings to strangers should be polite, not cool.
