I've heard "hit the sack" all my life. I think "hit the rack" is new to me.

As far as I know it's a term used in the U. S. Navy and Marine Corp. That's where I learned it anyway. On board Navy ships the beds are called "racks" (for reasons not relevant here) so when someone goes to bed he is said to be "hitting the rack."

If the context is about music, I think it can also mean to release / launch /publish a CD. Is that right?
