Hit sb up

Hi teachers~.

I have a question about hit sb up.

I looked up and found out that it means ask sb for help.

What I would like to know is if you use this expression as often as ask sb for help.

I don't know I might have missed it even when I heard it but it is very unfamiliar.

I teach English to adults.(not school)

Do you think it's worth teaching the expression or ask sb for help is enough?

Are they interchangeable or not?

Some videos that I have watched said it is common.

Thank you in advance.

Hello pen slide,

PS. I recommend that you teach your students this expression as well beside the formal one, but tell them that it is very casual", o
