His placing emphasis on

Letcher’s vested interest in environmentalism as a chemistry Lecturer compels his placing emphasis on carbon dioxide’s adverse environmental effects within the dominion of climate change.

I don't like this sentence at all I don't like the gerund 'his placing emphasis' on, nor do I like 'dominion of climate change'.

Please can you try and improve it please?
