His mother's letting

Hello

Could you please tell me whether it's correct to use the form "mother's letting ..." in this sentence:

"The boy's behavior was reinforced by his parents' letting him go camping on his own".

It doesn't sound right to me. Maybe I should say "The boy's behavior was reinforced by making his parent let him go ...."?

Thank you
