Hire them out to

I read an artical about the 787 Dreamliner on CNN News Website. Nevertheless, I am confused by the underlined part in the following passage.

Don't expect much difference from one Dreamliner to the next, Sheridan said. Boeing purposely limited the extent that carriers could customize the new plane in order to appeal to banks and leasing companies that are behind many purchases. If all the planes are similar, it's easier to hire them out to airlines or resell if needed.

My questions are as written.

(1) What do carries appeal to banks and leasing companies for?
Making a loan, or other purposes?

(2) Who do "them" refer to? I don't understand the meaning of this sentence.
Does it mean "they" are easier to get a new job at another airline,
or "they" are easily to be laid off by airlines ?

(3) If all the planes are similar, why do carriers resell the planes?

(3) Basically, I don't know the cause and consequence of these sentences.

Top answer

(1) What do carriers appeal to banks and leasing companies for? -- They probably don't, but the banks may resell them and the leasing companies re-lease them, so the banks and LCs don't want the planes customized to just one carrier. -- Do you understand now that I have answered #1-3?
