hints & tips

Hi,
is there any difference between hints and tips when it comes to advice?
In many web pages, i can see: hints & tips and even advice, tricks, etc.

When somebody gives you information about how to solve something , can i say that he is giving me some hints ?
Thanks and Regards.

If someone gives you a hint, you still need to actually figure it out by yourself. A tip is just a bit of advice. I think colloqually, "hints and tips" aren't differentiated from each other.
