Hinge on(chess)

Hi.
May I replace 'hinge' with 'depend' in:
"The answer hinges on the fact that pawns are worth less than pieces."
?What about substituting 'hinges on' with 'relates to'?

Thanks in advance

No idea. I don't speak Old English. But I think you were trying to use Early Modern English. In Old English, thou is þu and art is eart.

What about "revolves around"?

Neither carries the nuance that 'hinges on' does. A simple 'depends upon' would be better.
