Both are correct. 'his' is more formal than 'him', so it would be better to use 'his' on an English exam.

Both are correct. Being is a gerund acting as a noun. Therefore his goes nicely with it from a grammatical point of view. On the other hand, in is a preposition and all prepositions are followed by the object form of a personal pronoun, him.
