Essay & Composition Writing

Hildren can learn effectively from watching television, which is why it should be encouraged at school and at home. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?

People have different views about the issue of whether children should be allowed to watch television regularly or not. While I accept that there are obvious benefits of television offered to the development of children, I still believe that children's duration of watching TV should be limited for a number of reasons.

On the one hand, watching television is extremely beneficial to kids in some ways. Televisions are being considered an effective educational tool with their various programmes for kids. These programmes, such as BBC or Mickey Mouse House, are not only full of graphic and funny images but also teach their small viewers a lot of moral lessons. In this way, kids can both learn and relax at the same time.

On the other hand, there are several negative effects of television on children. Firstly, they are likely to suffer from some health problems such as short-sightedness or obesity and finally become a couch-potato if continuously sitting in front of a TV. Not only that, children who spend much of their time watching TV are believed not to be as intelligent as those who do not. Secondly, if young kids are watching the content that they are not supposed to watch like programs about violence, sex or crime, they might imitate those bad behaviors. As a result, these kids accidentally become bad citizens in the future. moreover, watching TV too much would possibly lead to children's lack of real interaction and communication with the outside world. Thus, they would suffer from loneliness and isolation since they do not have any friends.

In conclusion, despite the clear benefits of watching TV programmes to children, I think that they should reduce the time of sitting in front of TV'SS screen and, instead, participate more in outdoor activities.
