“Make knowledge your only weapon, if you intent to bring change to this society”, this are the lines I have grown up hearing to & it was told to me by none other than my mother. My upbringing was different because I am a single child & my father was a high school teacher, which is one of the most important factor, my childhood revolved mostly around books & upgrading my grades. With the time, I started to enjoy spending my time reading books, knowing facts. Every time I come across something new, I get curious & start digging more to get an in-depth knowledge as much as possible. However, my curiosity of acquiring knowledge got a direction when I started my research work for the duration of my under-graduate program. It was the time, when I realized my affinity towards research work; the duration was really an eye opening to me. It made me realize how my study & research work can help the society or can contribute to the world. Fueled by the will to study more & create a positive impact to the society through my research study, I decided to pursue my career goal in academics, & for this, there is no better option than Ph.D. For me, Ph.D. is not just a degree; it is an opportunity for me to pursue knowledge & try to benefit the society by my work. As said by John. F. Kennedy-“One can make difference & everyone should try”.
It was during my research work, where the reference papers that I selected for my study were by the authors from South Korean Universities, which intrigued me to dig more into the research areas of the University professors with respect to my field i.e. Food Engineering &Technology. I was astound by the broad spectrum of research work done by the professors on Food. In addition, the advanced research facilities propelled my enthusiasm of doing my doctoral research on large scale. I further researched about few professors & read about their studies & found them greatly accords with my research interest, which enthralled me towards pursuing my Ph.D. from one of the South Korean University. This was the backdrop when I started exploring the Universities in South Korea with respect to my Ph.D. & was fascinated, when I came to know more about the research facilities, infrastructure and scope of research in my field of Food Engineering & Technology. I came to know about the Korean Global Scholarship through Ministry of education website, GoI & KGSP is providing me with all the facilities to further my studies to a next level in a new education system along with exploring a new culture.
South Korea is known worldwide for its research, development and innovations; the nation is also widely recognized for its higher education system & gains access to top educational institutes in the world, which is one of the many reasons I truly want to pursue my research there. In addition, the country consistently has a place atop innovation rankings including Global Innovation Index and many more. The nation’s higher education system is very competitive in nature and highly marked among the Organization of Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) countries. Being the 4th largest economy among the Asian countries and 12th free economy in the world the country spends a significant amount of its GDP in its research and developments, and also providing a better quality of life as per the OECD Better Life Index which made my affinity more strong towards pursuing my Doctoral program from South Korea.
I am a graduate, pursued my Masters of Technology (M.Tech.) in the year 2019 with a major in Food Engineering and Technology, from the Department of Food Engineering and Technology at Tezpur University, Assam with a CGPA of 8.21/10. I have completed my bachelor’s in Agricultural Engineering from Assam University, Silchar with a CGPA of 7.5/10 in the year 2017. During my masters, I have worked on my research to objectify and implement the theoretical knowledge of kinetic theory of modeling into practical work. I also have experience in working with statistical analysis tools namely Design Expert, Origin software. I have two published papers on my research work from masters and I have written a book chapter (Under review). I have also attended many seminars and international conferences, which helped me in gaining huge confidence and boosted up my skills.
I was awarded with the Anundoram Borooah Awards for securing first Class in 10th standard. During my bachelor’s I was the co-convenor for Technical Fest. I have completed an Internal Auditor Training Course as per ISO 22000:2005 Standard Requirements and presented a poster on my research work in the International Conference on Technological Innovations for Integration of Food and Health (TiiFH 2019): A focus on North-Eastern India. Apart from this, I also hold a special corner for animals and try my best to serve them. I have been a volunteer for the Animal Welfare Club of Tezpur University and I am a permanent member for People for Animals.
