Highway/Interstate/Freeway

Hi, I have a few questions.

highway/interstate/freeway

I know it would depend on where it was located but which of these would be most frequently fit the description of a road of four lanes connecting big cities in the US? Could either of highway/interstate/freeway fit the description?

Are all of them natural in the sentences below?

The sound of nearby highway/interstate/freeway traffic was annoying.

The highway/interstate/freeway traffic was flowing smoothly.

She filled up the tank at a gas station by the highway/interstate/freeway.

The gas station was located close to a highway/interstate/freeway entrance.

Thank you very much in advance.
