High blood pressure I- Search Paper/ To Mountainhiker
This is my I-Search paper I want to know if you will read it and ibe me some tips and tell me how it sound
There are many diseases that affect people. Some are mild, such as the common cold. Others are more seriou, such as high blood pressure. Because my family have a history of high blood pressure,I knew that high that I would have a great chance of getting . I wanted know some of the ways that I could avoid or prevent from getting high blood pressure. Therefore I decided that high blood would the perfect topic for me to search. As I began my I-Search paper I was shocked to know that it is called the "Silent Killer". But the more I search, I understand why it is called that.
Being the curious person that I am, I wanted to know more about high blood pressure. I know that my mother have it, so I decided to interview her. I had planned to ask my mother eleven question, but I only got to ask three. Once she started talking she answered those three question without me actually asking;she answered the other eight.
I began the interview with my first question, how did you learn that you have high blood pressure? Betty answered by saying that when she was preganant with her second child. I had gone to my doctor for prenatal care when the doctor supected that I had this diorder. She said that she was given some intructions to follow of which she followed, but when she retrurned to the doctor office for a follow up visit, her blood pressure was still high. Next, question. Has high blood pressure ever caused you to be admitted to the hospital. Betty answered when I went for a follow up visit the doctor admitted me to the hospital where I stayed in a very quiet and dimly lit room. During that stay in the hospital she was kept sedat, so when she was discharge, she remermberd thinking she had been in the hospital for only a couple of days but in actualiy it was a couple of weeks. Next question. How lonf have you had high blood pressue? Betty said this disorder had been with me since my second pregnancy. The remaining eight questio 1.Do you follow youre doctor's advice" 2.Do you exercise? 3. What type diet do you eat? 4.Do you have a healthy weight 5.How would you describe high blood pressure 6.Do you pray 7. What are some ways that yo help your children under stand high blood pressure 8. What are your children chances of getting high blood pressure. All these question were answered as my mother continued telling me about her orderd with high blood pressure. She said she manage to cope with her disorder in variou ways such as walking three times a week, eating low-fat and low sodium diet, takes her prescribe medicatin, and pray to God for healing and strenght. She also said sincer her children chances are increased for getting this disorder, She often discuss with the how high blood pressure can lead to internal organd damage such as a heart attack, stroke, or end stage renal failure. She also brings home literature on high blood pressue that she thinks will be helpful (personal interview). I searched to learn and compare what the experts had to say about the difference between high blood pressure and normal blood pressure, Chua tells us that high blood pressure /hypertension is a conditon that keeps the blood pressure elevated above normal. He tells us that normal blood pressure ranges from 100 to 140 ove r 60 to 90, written are recorded as 100/60 to 140/90; systolic is the top number and diastolic is the bottom number (N.page). Wood writes that it a person is diabetic the 130/85 os high blood pressure (N.page). Chua defines systolic pressure as the force of flow of blood traveling throuyg the artertise pip and diastolic pressure as the force exerted by the blood aganisnt the inside wall fo the artery (N.page). Then Keande put it this way; "think of your arties as a garden hose." When water comes out of the end of it only reaches and in inch or two then drops to the ground. The bush at the end of the garden didn't get watered;therefore you will have to add anozzle to make the water shoot out the end easier, so it will reach the bush at the end of the garden ( N.page).
In the meantime, Chua tells us that primary and secondary hypertension is the most common high blood pressure condition . He said that despite primary hypertension/essettial hypertension have no known cause, but heredity is believed to be it origin. Then he tells us that secondary hypertension is caused by certaqin conditons or disease like bilateral kidney disease, pheochromocytoma, hyperthyroidism, ingestion of contraceptice, or excessive alcohol intake. He is quick to not forget, white coat hypertension, a condition that cause a person blood pressure to rise in the presence of the doctor, but returen to normal when the doctor is absent (N.page).
Now that I have learned what high blood pressure is, Chua answers my next question, once a person is diagnosed as hypertensive will that person always be diagnosed as hypertensive? He answers "yes", even when the blood pressure is normal range. He adds that some people have symptoms such as headche, short tempered, being flushed, nervousness, iritability, impatienct, adn a feelitn for wanting to explode;then, he adds not everybody that has high blood prssure show symptoms and estimated 65 million adult age 18 and older in the USA have high blood pressure compared with 50 million reported in a 1995 study that looked at survey dat from 1995 to 1998 (N.pag). Then Carroll tells about and 8 year old girel who is being prescribed blood pressure medicat8on;scary because most peope think of high blood pressue as a disorder of adult (page 5).
This is when Chua tells us how a person can live normally with hig blood pressure. He mention current day treatment such as: antihypertensive pills, low salt and low-fat diet, exercise, and no smoking, one can live a normal life (N.page). Wood suggest some food choices-cut fat and cholesterol by choosing chicken and turkey without the skin, well trimmed pork, most fish, no shell fish, use whipped margarine , and olive oil and vegetable oil usually work better when used in small amounts. She also tells us to avoid excess salt, eat enough potassium, calcium and magnesium, exercise, manage your stress, take a your medication, if needed loose weight, and if you drink alchol limit the amont ot one or two drinks a day (p.54).
In conclusion I know that I have learned a lot more than I did at first and I also realize that if high blood pressure is not carefully watched it can cause sickness and even deat. That 's whyt it important to keep a regular check.
