Essay & Composition Writing

Hi! Would you mind helping me with my essay? I'm preparing for the IELTS next month. Many thanks!!!

Topic: Some people think that government should ban dangerous sports, while others think people should have freedom to do any sports or activity. Discuss both views and give your own opinion.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

People hold differing views as to whether extreme sports should be abandoned or not. While there are strong arguments that the government should outlaw dangerous activities, I would side with those who believe that people should have the right to take part in any activity or sports.

On the one hand, there are at least two reasons why many people suppose that hazardous sports should be banned. Firstly, people who do these activities are supposed to run a high risk of getting life-threatening injuries even when they use essential sport gears. In addition, the youths who are most likely to participate in extreme activities may not be well aware of the danger they will face up to and not take sensible precautions as a result. Secondly, it will cost the government a huge amount of money to install a system of modern equipment and to upgrade the facilities so that they can ensure safety and minimize the risk of any accident occurring.

On the other hand, it seems to me that people should be given the freedom of choice over what type of sports they want to play. The first reason is that this is one of their basic human rights and this certainly does not infringe on the rights of others. Another reason is that risky sports can bring happiness and a sense of accomplishment for participants, especially the youths who tend to be dynamic and adventurous. These activities enable young people to challenge themselves and test their own limit, which can give them more confidence in life.

In conclusion, while there are some notable drawbacks to dangerous sports, it seems to me that the benefits far outweigh the disadvantages and that people should be allowed to take any sports or activity.
