These days more fathers stay at home and take care of their children while mothers go out to work. What could be the reasons for this? Do you think it is a positive or negative development?

Nowadays, there is a trend that men are increasingly likely to take on the role of the household band, while more women play as the primary breadwinners in their families. There are some factors leading to this, and I believe it should be seen as a positive trend.

I reckon that wider changes in society could be the reason for this shift. First, equal rights movements have had a great impact on empowering women, and women have the right to pursue further education and their dream career. Therefore, women are not put under pressure to sacrifice their careers in order to assume childcare responsibilities anymore. Additionally, some men have the tendency not to enjoy the work they are doing, whereas looking after their children bring a sense of achievement and satisfaction to them. Another cause might come from the financial burden, some husbands are jobless due to high-demand jobs, which result in their wives have to devote a huge amount of time to work. As a result, the number of stay at home dads and working moms is highly increasing more than ever.

From my perspective, the changes described above should be seen as progress. This could make some marriage partners including unemployed men and workaholic women do not take finances and educating children as a tough problem before starting a family anymore. Couples could make their own decisions about which parental role each partner takes, according to their particular circumstances and needs. Their family, of course, could completely be a role model family as others.

In conclusion, the changing roles in a family have been possible due to the great changes in social belief and this is a very positive trend that eliminates gender discrimination and reduces the financial burden for those families.
