School should not force children to learn a foreign language. To what extent do you agree or disagree?
It is true that foreign language has become a compulsory subject in school curriculum. While some people argue that children are not forced to learn this subject, I disagree with this statement.
Learning a foreign language brings several benefits to children. Firstly, it is much easier to break up the language barrier when children take up it at an early age. This is because this allows students to have more time to accustom to entirely new language including vocabulary,grammar and pronunciation. Consequently, the sooner children learn a language, the more fluently they can speak them. Furthermore, some studies have shown that bilingual students can gain an academic advantage over monolinguals. For example, bilingual children are better at multitasking skills and outperform their counterparts in a number of disciplines.
In addition to this, linguistic ability opens doors to a range of opportunities for children in the future. In terms of employment, people can gain a competitive edge over other candidates in such an intensive labour market. This means that mastering a foreign language will enable them to move up the career ladder and work at international companies. Additionally, they also need for travelling leisure which makes travellers have a more enjoyable experience. If people are equipped with language skill, they will be able to immerse themselves in the local’s culture and lifestyle which creates an authentic experience for them. It is also necessary to hold a basic conversation, such as asking for directions or ordering menus in an abroad country.
In conclusion, while school offers a great chance for children to learn language, it is essential to force them to learn owing to the benefits associated with them in both the short term and long term..
