Essay & Composition Writing

Hi teacher, can you help me with my essay. Thanks

Some people believe that it is wrong to keep animals in zoos, while others think that zoos are both entertaining and ecologically important. Discuss both views.

Zoos are a controversial component of human society. Supporters of zoos argue that zoos are beneficial for both animals and humans. However, opponents of zoos believe it is unethical to keep animals in zoos as humans have no moral right to do it.

On the one hand, zoos play an important role in wildlife conservation. When these animals live in wild, they have to face a range of dangers including illegal hunting and poaching, habitat loss, dangerous predators, or food shortages. But if they are kept in zoos, they will not suffer from these dangers and be given access to specialist care to survive. As a result, the zoo has brought several animal species back from the brink of extinction. Furthermore, humans also takes advantage from zoos. Going to the zoo is a chance for people to learn valuable information about many species which may not be possible to view in their local region.

On the other hand, zoos have several drawbacks. The main disadvantage is zoos can have an adverse impact on animals. Keeping animals in artificial environments can alter their natural habitat and even lose their instinct to hunt for food. This is because some animals cannot withstand the conditions found at zoo and small space restrict their natural instincts and desires. Consequently, many animals cannot survive after being released into the wild or some see a reduction of lifespan when bred in captivity. From a moral perspective, keeping animals in cages is unethical. Humans have no moral right to use animals with the aim of entertainment or profit. For example, a zoo can focused on the profits instead of the welfare of the animals.

In conclusion, every coin has its two sides and so do zoos.
