Some universities now offer their courses on the Internet so that people can study
online. Is this a positive or negative development?

Online courses are becoming a common feature of university education. In my opinion, this is a negative development that can lead to health problems, lack the interaction, and lower study productivity.

One serious problem that can arise from online learning is that online course there is less interaction during online courses. It is hard for students to make friends and attempt to compete with their peers. This is often linked to the fact that those learners seem to undervalue the significance of interaction and rivalry with classmates in an educational environment, which are actually regarded as great stimuli for scholastic success. Besides, without the need for regular face-to-face contact with teachers in a classroom, students may not understand the task completely. As teacher do not know if their pupils are actually gaining knowledge from the lesson and how they deal with their problems. So they can have the right rate students’ study process.

Another issue is that it can directly affect health. Long span of exposing to computer screen may negatively impact on physical well-being by causing fatigue and eyesore. As a result, students may not keep up with the lessons and study efficiently. Additionally, this may also lead to mental health like loneliness, isolation, and boredom because there is less interaction between teachers and pupils.

Finally, online learning can bring lower study productivity. As technological issues are the greatest barrier for effective online learning. There are numerous cases of bugging, lagging because of poor network signals, low-quality devices,etc. It leads to the reduction of lesson quality and students may not absorb as much knowledge as they do in traditional classes, which can affect badly their study results.

In conclusion, although it has become more popular to study online, it has brought many problems for this to be considered a positive trend.
