If you notice some fallacy idea being discussed by some people in a forum and you couldn't help yourself but feel eagerly want to add to that thread, in this case, what is the most polite way to start the conversation?

I believe I've used that, or something quite like it, myself. Actually, I think I wrote "If I may **** in ...". So obviously I think it's polite enough.

It seems reasonable, but you could also say 'If I may add / say...', as may indicates somewhat

of politeness. Come to think of it, the phrase 'Sorry to interrupt' may also meet your needs.

Thanks, Regards. I obviously forget that by saying "may" will add a certain degree of politeness to my saying. Thanks too for the suggestion.

CJ, it seems to me that "If I may **** in..." suits you best because I seriously think that your butting in are ALWAYSwelcome by any one of us in this forum.
